HOMECOMING SCOTLAND 2009 ROBERT BURNS INFORMATION.

HOMECOMING SCOTLAND 2009 ROBERT BURNS INFORMATION.

HOMECOMING SCOTLAND 2009 ROBERT BURNS INFORMATION about the local area where Robert Burns was born in 1759 in a little thatched cottage at Doonfoot Alloway in Ayrshire.
Doonfoot Alloway today is a quiet and peaceful little hamlet on the outskirts of the busy and picturesque town of Ayr. Ayr is a seaside town which attracts many tourists to the beautiful beach and to the well known Ayr Racecourse. Many local towns and villages look on Ayr as the ideal "day out".
Mauchline is about twelve miles from Ayr and Mauchline is where Robert Burns spent much of his poetic life. The farm Mossgiel at Mauchline where Burns farmed is in lush pastureland about one mile from Mauchline and Burns Monument.
Followers of Robert Burns poems can still visit the original pub in Mauchline called "Poosie Nancy's" and at this time it is painted in character in black and white.
As the crow flies directly West of Mauchline is the little hamlet of Tarbolton where Robert Burns frequented "The Batchelors Club", where Robert Burns took his first step into Freemasonry.
Travelling West takes you to the photographers dream coastline which stretches from Greenock in the North to Stranraer in the South. On this coastline you can visit the outstanding National Trust, Culzean Castle, and at the right time of year you can also visit the Maidens for excellent Ayrshire Tatties (potatoes).
The graphic of Robert Burns Monument in Mauchline is from my own private collection.
